1. Remember back in September when it was announced that Al Pacino would be taking on the role of controversial deceased football coach Joe Paterno? Well, that project just became a lot more interesting. It’s being reported that Brian De Palma, who Pacino previously worked with on “Scarface” and “Carlito’s Way,” will direct the film, currently titled “Happy Valley,” with a script by Dave McKenna (“American History X”). When the project was initially announced, it was rumored that former students at Penn State, where Paterno coached, who now work in Hollywood were attempting to squash the project. [Deadline]

2. Steven Bochco (“NYPD Blue”) is returning to television with a new crime drama for TNT. “Murder in the First,” set in San Francisco, will be similar to AMC’s “The Killing,” in that it will follow one case over an entire season instead of the standard “Law & Order” format. The first season will “follow two seemingly unrelated high profile murder cases,” and will involve “the police investigation, arrest, and trial.” [EW]

3. “Nobody Loves You,” the satirical musical about reality television, will be the final production of the 2012-13 season at the Second Stage Theater. The musical features a book by Itamar Moses, music by Gaby Alter, lyrics by Moses and Alter, and choreography by Mandy MooreMichelle Tattenbaum, who directed the show during its original run at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego, will return as director. Dates and casting will be announced soon. [Artsbeat]

4. Mathieu Amalric has stepped in to replace Louis Garrel in Roman Polanski’s film adaptation of “Venus in Furs.” Amalric will star opposite Emmanuelle Seigneur in the film, written by playwright David Ives and Polanski, which centers “on the writer/director of a new play who is enduring the audition process of finding an actress for the role in his upcoming work.” The two actors worked together on Julian Schnabel’s “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” and Amalric is currently shooting Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” [The Playlist]

5. Watch the video for “Pierce the Morning Rain,” the new single from indie rock legends Dinosaur Jr. The video, directed by Scott Jacobson (“The Daily Show”), features actor James Urbaniak (“Homeland”) as a husband who becomes obsessed with louder and louder stereo equipment. Look out for a cameo from a muscle-bound Henry Rollins. [SPIN]
